Grounds for Sculpture, 9/9/12

Stopped at a most amazing sculpture garden, between Princeton and Trenton, NJ – Grounds for Sculpture. Acres of beautifully landscaped grounds, with bamboo, flowers, koi ponds, hills, riverfront, water features, trees, shrubbery, lawn, and buildings. Then there’s all the contemporary sculpture – wood, stone, metal, glass. And for an added treat, you’ll find the life-size, life-like sculptural reimaginings of classic modern art 19th century paintings by Renoir, Monet, Rousseau, Manet, Matisse. Seward Johnson, founder of the garden on the former NJ FairGrounds, created these amazingly precise but playful works – you can actually insert yourself into the tableaux. Three hours, playing hide and seek with so many sculptures hidden inside the landscaping.

Amazing place, well worth the detour  off the Jersey lunar landscape.
