Worcester Art Museum – 10-24-15

Indoor hike! Toured the Worcester Art Museum, surprisingly large and jam-packed with a sampling of works throughout time and lands. From ancient Greek, Roman, Pre-Columbian to a few Impressionists, and American Folk Art and some contemporary pieces.

WAM now houses the armor collection from the defunct Higgins Armory, and does a nice job explaining Knights in armor to kids – with a tip of the cowl to the Dark Night, Batman. The artistry of the armor was impressive – body armor worked (carved? molded?) with patterns looking like a brocade fabric, and a sword hilt with Wedgewood china inlay.

Three solid hours of exploring the museum. We hit every room that was open, and left as they were setting up for a wedding, with the cocktail hour around an ancient mosaic of hunting scenes, below a huge grotesque modern mural showing bloody dead animals. Ah, romance!

We were so busy exploring the variety of artworks from all over the world that I forgot to take photos. So go visit!
