Angel Fire and Taos, NM

Over the pass from Angel Fire to Taos to pick Josh up from his 3-hour van-ride from Albququ. Old Taos was in mid-fiesta! Then on to the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, 800 ft above the river (yes, that Rio Grande, starts in the mountains before heading to Texas). Then hiked up around the Angel Fire ski resort trails – lots of mountain bikers ride the ski lift to bike down. Plus, preparing centerpieces, and a few photos from nephew Ben’s and new-niece Rachael’s wedding! Continue reading Angel Fire and Taos, NM

Colorado

Landed in Denver, drove to Boulder, CO. Toured downtown’s Pearl St. pedestrian mall – many blocks of local art galleries, eateries, lots of public sculptures, all kinds of musicians with hats out. Very nice, friendly vibe. Not as “trippy” as Ithaca Commons, but similar. Lots of young families. Then a tour of Naropa University – Buddhist-based, small school, Alan Ginsburg Library! From Naropa, on to Breckenridge. Over Loveland Pass, over 11,000 ft elevation. Hard to catch your breath due to the oxygen shortage at these heights. Hard to catch your breath because of the views! Then Breckenridge. Amazing ski resort … Continue reading Colorado

Boston Sculpture Walk 2

Weekday evening stroll up Boston Common to the State House, a few sculptures on the Beacon Street side of the Common, then the rest of the statues in the Public Garden. Then on down Boylston St to Copley Square and the public art there. Finally, on another evening, dinner at Kennedy’s Midtown on Province St., followed by an exploration for a hidden gem – historic bronze bricks on Winthrop Lane, between Arch & Devonshire. Broadmoor Audubon Sanctuary, Natick – July 4, 2011

Broadmoor is one of the great natural areas we’ve visited – wetlands, ponds, waterfalls, pine and oak woods, and the Charles River. Saw great blue herons, painted turtle, ducks, geese, butterflies, red-winged blackbirds. Heard more critters than we saw. Just 30 minutes from Sharon, up 27 through Sherborn, to route 16 in Natick. What a country! Continue reading Broadmoor Audubon Sanctuary, Natick – July 4, 2011

Camphill Goodbye 7-2-11

Picked Dan up from his year of Americorp service at Camphill Village (for adults with developmental disabilities [identities blurred for privacy]). Enjoyed another great lunch of Camphill-grown salad, plus rice, beans, and Camphill-grown scrambled eggs! Took our final stroll around the grounds, especially the Healing Garden. This garden grows flowers, herbs, and similar plants used in ointments, teas, etc. What a place, what a mission, based on the dignity of contributing to one’s community focused on ability (not disability). http://www.Camphillvillage.org.   Continue reading Camphill Goodbye 7-2-11
